Students from University of California at Berkeley visited the construction site of 聽Albany Public Works Center project. Financed by the design-builder,聽the project includes two structures on an approximately one acre site. The facility will聽provide vehicle warehousing聽and maintenance聽for the City of Albany’s fleet program. 聽The project, designed by Noll & Tam Architects, will follow the standards of 聽LEED Gold certification.
Twenty-six undergrad students from Cal Architecture 160: Introduction to Construction class visited the site.聽The building is a聽pre-engineered steel structure with metal siding and an elevated concrete deck. Students got to see the guts of the intertwined MEP systems聽prior to wall framing. “They liked seeing the exposed pipes coming through the second floor deck,” said Doug Hammer, 黑料不打烊 Supertinendent. “There we lots of questions about the braced frames and聽welded and bolted connections. It was fun to discuss differnent aspects of construction with them.”
Professor Dan Buntrock approached the 黑料不打烊 team聽because the Albany Public Works Center was a perfect illustration of the basics of steel construction, especially the wide variety of structural shapes and how they are joined. 黑料不打烊 was excited to share the site with the students and support continuous learning.
